About Me

My name is Lee Sheng Wang.  I am a Year-Three undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelor of Communication (Honours) degree in Advertising at University Tunku Abdul Rahman in Malaysia.  

Since young, I have had this curious desire to produce films.  At the age of 15, I produced a documentary “Keluarga Bahagia Tanpa Dadah” which was shortlisted as the Top Ten Winners in the Anugerah Filem Pendek 2006 Competition organized by the Ministry of Information, Filem Negara and Radio Television Malaysia (RTM).  This documentary depicts the evils of drug addiction.  I was given the accolade being the youngest finalist in the Competition and featured on morning Talk Shows. My production was totally done without external help.  The script, cinematography, directing, editing, producing and music were original and self executed. 

In 2008, I participated in the National Short Film Awards Competition, “Anugerah Karyawan Muda 2008”, a competition organized by the Ministry of Information, Filem Negara and RTM.  I was placed as among the Top Five Winners in the documentary category.

I have participated in many learning programmes including courses organized by National Film Department (FNM), Department of Broadcasting (RTM) and National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) including one facilitated by Mr Michael Wiese. 

In April 16, 2010, I was shortlisted as finalist nominee category “Seni Visual- Grafik/Media Baru” for the Selangor State Young Talent’s Award at Dewan Sivik Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya
organised by:    Sekretariat Belia Negeri Selangor (SBNS) Selangor Government.  My short films were nominated for the Kuala Lumpur International Film Awards and selected for screening at the Awards Presentation event that has been deferred indefinitely.   

I represented Malaysia officially at The ASEAN-ROK Independent Cinema Workshop, 2009 held at Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines from July 15-August 8, 2009 organised by the Philippines Information Agency, PIA Bldg., Visayas Avenue Diliman, Quezon City, PHILIPPINES.  I was official Country Representative to The ASEAN-ROK Independent Cinema Workshop, Phase 2, Pusan, Korea 2010, held from October 11-16, 2010 in conjunction with the 15^th Pusan International Film Festival 2010 at Busan Yachting Centre Outdoor Theater, Megabox, CGV, Lotte Cinema organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade, Republic Of Korea (MOFAT).

My short films were nominated in two categories in the 23th Malaysian Film Festival 2010 for Best Documentary Film Award and Best Short Film Award Category in Current Affairs / News at Festival Filem Malaysia ke 23 (23rd Malaysian Film Festival) , on October 20-24, 2010 at Shah Alam Convention Centre, Selangor, Malaysia by Kementerian Penerangan Komunikasi & Kebudayaan Malaysia (MICC), Perbadanan Kemajuan Filem Nasional Malaysia (FINAS), Gambungan Persatuan Karyawan Filem Malaysia (GAFIM),Penerbit-penerbit Filem Malaysia (PFM).

I was the “Silver Prize Winner” in the Royal Commonwealth Vision Award, London 2010 at Commonwealth Club, London, United Kingdom in October 10-14, 2010 organised by The Royal Commonwealth Society, London, United Kingdom.  I attended Commonwealth Vision Award Gala evening in London to be part of this grand event where I meet with the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobag. My trip was sponsored by Malaysia Airlines, The British High Commission, FINAS (National Film Development Corporation Malaysia), as well as supported by my local State Assembly Representative and my University in recognition of my achievements.

 

I participated in the Commonwealth Vision Awards as I was attracted by its mission to “promote excellence in filmmaking across the Commonwealth”.  My participation has also provided the prospect my documentary being widely disseminated across the Commonwealth and this is important as I would like to promote the awareness that hearing impairment in children can be restored. 

 

I am also a photography enthusiast.  Earlier this year, four of my works were officially selected for exhibition at Life.style 2011 Photography Exhibition in March 2011.  My work was also selected and printed in the “Galeria selection for the best picture from your eyes” column in the Aperture Magazine April 2011 edition.

 

I would like to continue with my passion in film making achieving the highest level of excellence.  I will strive to learn and acquire the knowledge and skills to enable me to do so.  I believe the audiovisual media is a powerful media not only in entertainment value but in its influencing capabilities.  I would like to harness the energy of this media and use it to positively impact our society and our way of life.
